I’m guilty of being a truly selfless person. It’s a complimentary trait in many people’s eyes, but it’s a curse to those who possess it.
We’re too busy making sure everyone else has what they need or want and we let ourselves go without.
I’m not just talking about items on our wish lists. I’m talking about essential items.
This isn’t meant to be a pity party, but you don’t realize how much you deprive yourself when you only focus on taking care of the needs and wants of your friends and family.
I actually just ‘treated myself’ with to a new vacuum so I could have better pet-hair-removal in order to breathe easier. Seriously? That’s a big ‘ole bag of pathetic! I obviously have a hard time distinguishing want from need. I always have, but I’m hoping to break this awful trend.
I recently stumbled across a website called ‘The Emotion Machine’ and read an article called Six Aspects Of A Balanced Person. Check it out when you have a few minutes. In the meantime, let’s find a treat for ourselves that relates to each of these aspects to keep ourselves balanced.
1.Physical: Get a massage or try yoga! Loosen those muscles and relieve the tension in your body.
2.Mental: Buy a book! Grab something on the best-seller list and relax in a bubble bath.
3.Emotional: Be happy! Go to a comedy club or a fun activity that makes you smile.
4.Social: Get out of the house! Go to a winery or check out a brewery tour.
5.Financial: Shop! You have to have an occasional splurge to stay sound. Get those new boots!
6.Spiritual: Try yoga or get creative and take an art class!
As a mother and wife, I know I have a natural tendency to nurture others. We’re all guilty of it at one time or another, but some of us take it way too far and it can be hard to climb out.
So, to all of you fellow selfless beings, treat yourself during this month of love!
