An important key to every business is efficiency because it keeps costs down. We can absolutely help you be more efficient with your accounting, but we also need our clients to help us be more efficient with what goes into their bookkeeping.
The bottom line is in the details. We know you don’t want to look at every transaction to make sure it was booked correctly.
At the same time, it’s critical to remember that each transaction is what makes up the totals that matter most to you and your business at year-end, so providing us with accurate information will save you a lot of headaches.
Something as silly as an incorrect date or amount can wreak havoc when trying to match a transaction to an automatic download or when reconciling an account. Let us know when you have those occasional out-of-the-ordinary transactions. For example, did you have to withdraw cash to pay a vendor? Let us know! For all we know, you could have been lending an employee or yourself money. In either case, we need to know the details so we can record the transaction properly.
What’s the best way to let us know about your transactions?
The best practice is to either email the details or email a request to schedule a phone call so that we can be mentally and physically ready to address your questions and/or record the information you’re calling to provide.
For clients who aren’t very active in their accounting software, or just don’t know where to get the information, we can help by sending weekly reports of items such as cash position, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
It’s important for you to review these reports because we only send useful information that you should be up-to-date on as a responsible business owner. If something doesn’t make sense, we’re happy to have a virtual meeting to explain the reports to you.

You’d be amazed at some of the smaller things that slow us down and hinder our efficiency. For example, when documents come in upside down, are missing pages or are illegible, it really slows us down. Help us help you keep your bookkeeping costs down….the less time we spend on smaller things like I just mentioned, the more likely we can keep your monthly fee down.
It may seem like we have all the answers, but keep in mind that we’re not present for your day-to-day activity outside of your books. We know what goes into an invoice, but that doesn’t mean we know what went into the service or contract for that invoice.
We only know the information that you provide, so make sure it counts!
